What Do You Serve Visitors?

What do you serve visitors?

Sometimes this question can be a big dilemma for some people. For others, it can be a walk in the park. Some of factors that determine what you serve include how long the visitor would stay, who the visitor is to you, what you have at home and how much you have.

For me, I decided long ago to serve nutritious foods,  snacks and drinks. It may not always be easy to achieve this but with a mindset change, proper planning and practice, it is doable. Eventually, it could become a habit and even a part of your culture.

Dundun, Fried Yam, is my favorite food/snack to serve. When I don’t have Yam, I Use Water Yam (Isu Ewura) and it comes out very delicious.

For my visitor, I fried Water Yam in Coconut Oil.  Coconut oil is saturated oil and it doesn’t produce trans-fat or other dangerous substances that occur when you heat the normal vegetable oil at high temperature.

I also made a mackerel pepper sauce with some sautéed vegetables (cabbage and green beans) that I had at home.

For drinks,  I served cold water. It is refreshing and healthy.  I sometimes serve Malt drinks if I have them at home but I do not buy soft drinks.

My perspective is that my service to you should nourish you, refresh you and make you happy at the most. Whatever I serve should not cause harm (or that it should not be something that contributes to the global burden of diseases).

I am interested in knowing what types of foods and drinks that you use as refreshments for visitors in your home. What do you serve visitors on short notice or generally? Do you give something light?
